Opening times

Closed from September 18 to December 1st for change of exhibition

  • Open Thursday to Sunday:  2pm to 6pm
  • School holidays: 10am - noon / 2pm - 6pm
  • July and August: 10am - 1pm / 2pm - 6pm
  • Closed January 1, May 1 and December 25

The euphoria of the mountains : André Contamine and mountaineering in the 1950S - 1960S

From December 17, 2022 to September 17, 2023

Close to the great figures of his time, at the forefront of techniques and always on the lookout for new routes, André Contamine was a master for a whole generation of mountaineers. To share his passion for the mountains, he chose photography as his privileged mode of expression. Through a selection of nearly 150 photographs, discover his enthusiastic and passionate view of mountaineering in the 1950s and 1960s.

This exhibition is designed by the Maison de la Mémoire et du Patrimoine and the Municipal Archives of Chamonix, in partnership with Gilles Modica, journalist and writer specializing in the history of mountaineering.
